Bathroom Tilers — FAQs
How much does bathroom tiling cost?
Tiling labour typically runs around $40–$120 per m² depending on the tile size and layout complexity (large-format, mosaics and feature niches cost more to lay), plus the tiles themselves. A full average bathroom retile is commonly a few thousand dollars in labour before tile costs.
Do bathroom tilers do waterproofing too?
Many do — but waterproofing is its own regulated step (AS 3740) and in some states needs a specific licence. Whoever does it, make sure a waterproofing certificate is issued before any tiles go down; it's what protects you if a leak appears later.
Can you tile over existing bathroom tiles?
Sometimes — if the existing tiles are solidly bonded, tiling over them saves demolition cost. The trade-offs are extra floor height, doorway trims and a small risk if the old bed fails. Most tilers will inspect and tell you honestly whether over-tiling or stripping back is the better job.
